Nursing school is difficult.

I will help you learn how to think like a nurse.

About Nursology Tutoring

Nursology is defined by the Mosby’s Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing and Health Professions (2019) as a conceptual framework for the study and practice of nursing.  It requires the nurse to interact with the patient in an ‘authentic’ way, without aloofness and the distance of professionalism; the nurse must take the risk of caring.  As a method, nursology requires that the nurse cut through the defences and fears that prevent self-knowledge.  The nurse tries to know the patient on an intuitive, subjective level.  The nurse recognizes that each person has an ‘angular view’ of the whole truth; comparison of the views of others is necessary for a perspective that allows a synthesis, often paradoxical but closer to the truth than any one person’s angular view.  Nursology is intended to provide a model for nursing methods and research.  The nurse and the patient have the opportunity to grow, and the science of nursing may emerge from the ‘angular’ investigations and syntheses.

This definition informs my nursing philosophy, practice and teaching. I created Nursology Tutoring to help nursing students understand content and apply it to real situations. With dedication, planning and coaching, you will experience success!

I graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with an ‘A’ average. After working for a few years in a wide variety of clinical areas, I earned a Critical Care Nursing Specialty Diploma with Distinction from BCIT. For approximately five years I worked in a Cardiovascular ICU caring for patients after open-heart surgery. I recently moved into a consultant role where I advocate for patient safety and quality care.

Prior to my nursing career, I studied English Literature at the University of Victoria, which turned out to be extremely helpful when writing endless papers in nursing school. I am currently working on a Master of Nursing and I look forward to learning more about the areas I am passionate about - education, leadership, and technology. I have over 20 years of experience coaching and mentoring students. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and supporting you as your begin your career as a nurse!

Outside of all things nursing, I enjoy spending time with my family, photography, yoga, running and finding new vegan recipes.
